Griffons speedster Selvyn Davids was voted the MyPlayers’ Player of the Month for September, in association with The Safari Guys.
The players who made the shortlist for the September award include Damian Willemse (WP), Sbu Nkosi (Sharks), William Small-Smith (Cheetahs), Curwin Bosch (Sharks), Selvyn Davids (Griffons) and Jeandre Rudolph (Leopards).
After the voting period, Davids emerged with the most votes from all the professional players in South Africa.
The Nico Malan old boy has been a star feature for the Griffons in recent seasons, especially on attack. He’s been instrumental during the Griffons’ back-to-back Currie Cup First Division titles, as a frequent try-scorer and creator from the last line of defence. His skills with ball in hand has even seen him called up to the Springbok Sevens squad.
The 23-year-old was honoured to receive the award.
“I found myself nominated on a list of great players. I didn’t expect to get the most votes!” Davids told MyPlayers. “I’d like to thank all the players who voted for me. It’s a great honour to receive this award.
“I’d also like to thank all my team-mates at the Griffons. We’ve played good rugby during the Currie Cup and we are very proud to lift the title for a second year in a row!”
On behalf of our sponsor The Safari Guys, Davids wins a stay at Shabani Cottage at Doornkop Fish and Wildlife Reserve for eight people.
The upmarket, fully equipped 4 bedroom (each en-suite) house is situated on a RCI Gold Crown Resort on a 2000 hectare game reserve between Carolina and Machadodorp. The venue is also wonderful for bird watching. No predators, which is great for hiking and no threat to children. Game viewing can be done on foot, cycle or 4×4.
